CHAPTER 2:
HOW DOES ONE TRULY FIND GOD?
1: The belief in God’s Holy Word; believing it’s just that; His Holy infallible Word to us personally from front to back.
2: The acknowledgment that we have sinned, and it’s penalty; Eternal death. There is no hope in anything WE can do without Christ, to get to Heaven. It’s a gift from God Himself and it can ONLY be gotten from Him, through faith by His grace. The gift is eternal life through His Son Jesus Christ, the Lord:
Rom. 3:23; “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Rom. 6:23; “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
John 3:16; “For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Eph. 2:8-9; “For by grace, you are saved through faith, and that, not of yourselves, it is the gift of God: Not of WORKS [circumcision, etc.] lest any man should boast.”
3: The belief in Jesus; To have the faith In God enough to believe that Jesus’ death on the cross redeemed us, paying the penalty of our sin (God raising Him from the dead 3 days later) IF we repent (meaning to turn from) our sins. Acts 3:19; “Repent… that your sins may be blotted out…” This requires believing in God enough to DO whatever He says (John 15:14). We confess our sins and ask His forgiveness:
1John 1:9; “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Rom. 10:9; “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, AND BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved.”
4: Repentance: The PROOF of our belief; (what we DO, more than what we say- afterwards):
Rom. 10:10; “For with the heart man believes UNTO RIGHTEOUSNESS (ie: doing only what’s right); and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Ezek. 18:21; (The definition of repentance); “But if the wicked will turn from ALL his sins that he has committed, and keep ALL My statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.”
James 2:20,24; “Will you know oh vain man, that faith without works is dead? You see then, that by WORKS, a man is justified, and NOT by faith only.”
Eph. 2:10; “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good WORKS [God’s commandments/ordinances], which God has before ORDERED that we walk in them!”
1John 2:4; “He who says, ‘I know Him’, and does not keep His commandments, is a LIAR and the truth is NOT in him.”
5: Be baptized; Baptism, in and of itself, doesn’t save you; but it is a commandment (to those who repent), and it also acts as a public declaration of our faith in Christ.
Mar. 16:16; “He that believes and is baptized shall be saved.”
Acts 2:38; “…Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Matt. 3:6; “And they were baptized by him… confessing their sins.”
6: The total surrender; and being faithful unto death; Surrendering The ‘Idols’ Of The Heart- Jesus knew that being surrendered of all idolatry was necessary to even be ABLE to keep God’s commandments… Then He and ALL the apostles, said that in order to receive the reward of eternal life on the ‘judgement day’, it was absolutely necessary to CONTINUE doing so, enduring and being faithful unto death:
Matt. 24:13; “HE who endures TO THE END shall be saved.”
Matt. 16:24-27; “If anyone will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever desires to hold on to his life [his will for his life] will lose it [in the world to come], but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it [in the world to come]. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world [here on earth], and loses his soul [in the world to come]? For what shall a man give in exchange for his soul, for the Son of man shall come in the glory of His Father with His angels; and then He shall reward every man ACCORDING TO HIS WORKS!”
Col 3:2-3; “Set your AFFECTION on things ABOVE, not on things of this world. For you are DEAD, and your life is hid with Christ in God.”
Gal. 2:20; “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.”
Rev. 2:10; “…Be faithful UNTO DEATH, and I will give you a crown of life!”
